Exactly this. Pets are family to me. It is one thing to be against adopting pets, if it is another to tell someone to get rid of their pet. Although I’m not vegan and just a vegetarian, I think that is silly because it is a mutually beneficial relationship. Also every cat or dog I’ve owned has been from a rescue agency or shelter, with the exception of my very first childhood dog. I’m giving them a better life. I will take them to the vet if they get sick, I buy the best food that I can afford. My two cats’ wet food is made to human safety standards, and they are loved dearly. When we adopted my two current cats, our vet gave us a glowing review. The lady at the adoption agency was excited to give them to us because of this.

I’ve left out a lot, like he went to jail briefly when i was 9 and my mom started dating another man. He threatened to kill us all and shot out all of the windows in the home he was living in. Didn’t see him for some time after that. Basically, he has a lot of issues and I stay aware of them but have tried to navigate a relationship up until recently but I’ve been letting go of that. There's no excuse for not looking, but sometimes jaywalking can be a deliberate choice that involves more than just distance. There's two crosswalks I jaywalk at because they're unsafe. One is by my bank, and the "walk" signal coincides with a green right turn arrow(people always reply to me when I share this story saying that's impossible, but I assure you, it is a thing). Cars do not look, because they have a green and assume you're walking against the signal(see: "that's impossible!"). This is an unsafe crossing, and after nearly getting creamed by a psychotic old lady I started crossing in the crosswalk but against the light(waiting until it's clear and making a run for it) when it was actually safe to do so rather than whenever the crosswalk decided it was time to sacrifice a pedestrian. My AC broke at the beginning of the pandemic, but I didn’t really care because I wasn’t working, wasn’t going anywhere. Didn’t need it. Now it’s the end of June in Georgia and I’m starting to mind a little bit lol I do enjoy taking the long way home so I can keep my windows down, though.
